Wednesday, 07 January 2009

A new bug fix version has now been made available with important changes.

  • Runs now on 64 bit operating systems.
  • Error in resolving dependencies for drop/add has been fixed. Occures if a "Data Source" server name is different from a "Destination" server name. The bug was that in this case no compare run was possible at all.
  • The Drop Statistic statement for indexes in the SQL change script has been removed, because it is not allowed.
  • The "Alter Table" statement in the change script failed if you change the column from NULL to NOT NULL and there is a dependent index on this column. Now the dependent index will be recreated.
  • "Show Differences" for Default Constraints now available.
  • No compare run was possible because the following error was thrown: "...contains a line grater than 1024 characters." This issue now has been resolved.

Wednesday, 07 January 2009

A new bug fix version has now been made available with following changes.

  • The Object Explorer has been reworked. It has been simplified and some bugs have been fixed. For example if one connects to the database server with the IP addresse instead of the server name the compare run dit not work.
The functionality to script database objects has been removed. Because this is a build in SQL Server feature. And we think to keep the tool as simple as possible is our target.
  • The help system has been updated.
  • Some minor bug fixes.

Sync For SQLServer Version 1.5 PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 17 October 2007

Our new version 1.5 has been released end of october. It has a totally new database comparer. It combines completely new functionality with improved speed. Its goal is to have a change script that works and to modify the destination database minimum.

Tables will be recreated only if there is no other way. Otherwise an ALTER TABLE statement will be performed. A big point in the current version are object dependencies. Dependent objects for an object which will be dropped are disabled previously in order to have a change script that works. As well as object to add: dependent objects will be created before.

It has a new Difference View, a Dependency View showing the object dependencies (for script and drop) and an Action Plan with a list of actions to perform on the destination database.

The new compare engine is much faster than before. Sync For SQLServer is now capable of dealing with complex schemata of big databases. It does not work any more with SQL Server 2000.
