Sync For SQLServer - Walkthrough
Monday, 02 July 2007

In figure 7 you can see the Data Migration Control File created according to your Data Migration Settings. It is stored in your Active Workspace under the root. It contains the SQL file names of your Data Migration scripts in an ordered list. All the dependencies of your database tables are resolved and the result is the ordered list you see here. So if you run the scripts in this order there are no dependencies violated.

The next step is to press the "Run Data Migration" button (see figure 8). Be sure prior to running the Data Migration to have finished running your Change Script against the Destination database. Otherwise your data migration will fail because your table structure might be outdated and incorrect.
The Data Migration is run against your Destination database. The SQL scripts and the Data Migration Control File in your currently Active workspace are used for this purpose.

You can see the results (see figure 9) in the output window.

You can use the Data Migration Scripts and the Data Migration Control file independently of Sync For SQLServer. You can for example write a short batch script to execute the SQL script files acoording to the Data Migration Control File.

You can run the package you created at your customer site where you are independent of any Data Source database because everything is contained in the package.
